NLP-POL: Trump's Venezuela Press Conference — A Discourse Analysis
This analysis examines Trump's press conference on Venezuela (January 3, 2026) using natural language processing. The corpus comprises 858 sentences drawn from remarks by Trump, Hegseth, Rubio, and Waltz, analyzed for rhetorical posture, response quality, thematic focus, and actor framing.
Rhetorical posture
Trump is not the most aggressive speaker. Hegseth and Rubio carry particularly offensive rhetoric, while Trump focuses on economic framing. Oil and economy dominate his responses while journalists ask about governance and legal framework.
Actor framing
US entities are portrayed positively (+0.39), foreign entities negatively (−0.53). 72% of journalist questions receive only partial responses.
