NLP-POL: Macron's Ambassadors Speech — A Diplomatic Discourse Analysis
This analysis examines President Macron's annual address to French ambassadors at the Élysée Palace (January 8, 2026) using natural language processing. The corpus of 359 sentences is analyzed for geopolitical framing, agency positioning, policy ambition, and diplomatic tone toward international actors.
Agency and ambition
France is positioned as a proactive actor in 85% of sentences, with only 3% adopting a victim posture. The speech is 56% programmatic, 40% aspirational, and only 3% concrete, emphasizing method over substance.
Diplomatic positioning
Europe is the clear priority (+0.59). The US is treated neutrally, China negatively. Ukraine and India emerge as key partners.
